English tax laws made such vehicles more economical to purchase. Morgan produced its first 4-wheeled car in 1936 and the same basic design is still in production today, although no longer available in the U.S. market. In 1952, Morgan discontinued its original 3-wheeler. The styling of the 2012 3-wheeler mimics the look of Morgan sport models from the 1930s. This open roadster seats two and has an aluminum body. Curb weight is approximately 1,100 pounds. A two-cylinder motorcycle engine resides between the front wheels. The 1.8-liter 100-horsepower (estimated) V-twin engine is an American-made S & S Cycle. Power is transmitted to the single rear wheel by a Mazda-sourced 5-speed manual gearbox. Morgan estimates 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 115 mph. Because of its 3-wheel layout, this Morgan isn’t subject to normal federal safety requirements such as airbags. Safety features include roll bars. Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, twin racing windshields, and wire wheels. Options include chrome trim, body graphics, and special paint. Price in the United Kingdom is £25,000.
