The redesigned CTS costs more for 2014, going from $39,095 to $46,025, but the standard equipment load is up, too.

Cadillac has just unveiled the third generation of its midsize CTS, a car that redefined the luxury brand after its introduction in 2003. At that time, Cadillac hung its hat on big, front-drive luxury sedans, but the CTS bowed as a midsize rear-drive sporty sedan aimed directly at rivals from BMW and Mercedes.

Cadillac vs. Genesis

I didn’t see it coming, it just happened. I stepped out of one $70,000 car, and stepped directly into another.

As an auto writer, that coincidence alone does not qualify as amazing. Also not surprising is that fact that these two cars are vying for the same shoppers, more or less.

No, what’s worth noting is that one of these cars is a Cadillac, and the other a Hyundai.

The 2014 model year is promising sales-number junkies plenty of action to keep track of. Compiled here are the five most interesting vehicles to watch in ’14. Two of the vehicles we’re keeping an eye on are diesels; two are electric, and one is an old sales stalwart that’s boldly breaking with tradition. Time will tell if these experiments will pay off in the marketplace, and we’ll be watching to see if they do.
