Forty or so years ago, ensuring vehicle safety and reliability in cold-weather driving usually meant performing a series of annual maintenance rituals.
Common preparations including swapping out the thermostat, flushing the cooling system, switching to lighter-weight motor oil, and having the battery tested. Additionally, slapping on snow tires was not uncommon in locales known for heavy doses of the white stuff.

It may be the pride of Dearborn, Michigan, but the Ford Mustang has strong bonds to New York City. The original Mustang bowed there on April 17, 1964, at the World’s Fair. Almost exactly a half-century later, Ford announced the 50 Year Limited Edition version of the all-new sixth-generation 2015 Mustang at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

What has two doors; is 218.2-inches long; and is white, pastel yellow, and wood-grained all over? If the first thing that pops into your mind is the special-edition 1979 Buick LeSabre Palm Beach, you may have just identified your perfect set of cheap wheels.
First Spin: 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Styling changes to the 2016 Passat are subtle, but they help freshen the look a bit. Less subtle are the added features; most of the newest high-tech items are offered, albeit some only on upper trim levels. Prices start at $23,260 and run up to $37,655 for the top V6 model.
At first I was worried.
When an invitation arrived to a preview for the “new” 2016 Volkswagen Passat, I grew concerned that one of my favorite midsize sedans was going to become … well … less of a favorite.
It happens. Sometimes, a vehicle hits a peak of sorts where everything just seems to fall into place, and then a redesigned model replaces it that suffers from the “Change for the sake of change” syndrome and loses something in the transition.
Volkswagen today announced a “Customer Goodwill Package” available to current U.S. owners of TDI diesel vehicles affected by the emissions-rigging scandal. Presented here is the text announcing the package as found on Volkswagen’s vwdieselinfo.com website. Note that a fix for affected vehicles has not yet been announced. Affected are all 2.0-liter TDI vehicles sold in the U.S. and Canada since 2009.
