Exterior styling changes include a freshened front fascia with enlarged V-Motion grille and standard LED headlights, while in back there are redesigned taillights and a revised rear fascia with quad-tip exhaust finishers. All five grade levels — S, SV, SL, sporty SR, and line-topping Platinum — also get new wheel designs.

Continuing underhood is a 300-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, but several features are either new or extended down into lower trim levels.
Among the available safety features is Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, which includes forward collision warning and mitigation with pedestrian detection, blind-spot alert, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Also available are a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Newly standard on all trim levels is Rear Door Alert (which warns drivers to check the rear seats for children or pets when exiting the vehicle) and Intelligent Driver Alertness, which warns of drowsy or inattentive driving.
The 2019 Nissan Maxima is due on sale in December.

Although the current-generation Maxima debuted just three model years ago, that’s an eternity in an industry where advances are coming along at such an alarming rate. Styling changes here are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, meaning the Maxima is still readily identifiable as … well … a Maxima. It’s always nice to see more features offered — especially on the safety front — and the Maxima is now available with a relatively complete set of them, including a few that are fairly unusual.
