2022 Los Angeles Auto ShowRevealed at a private event in advance of the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Genesis X Convertible hints at what a production open-top car from the Korean luxury brand might look like—assuming such a thing were ever to be built. The X Convertible is third in a series of Genesis “X” concept cars, following the X Concept (2021), and the X Speedium Coupe (August, 2022).

Purely a design exercise, the Crane White X Convertible features a long wheelbase and very short front and rear overhangs, giving the drop top a rakish yet tidy profile, and nicely balanced proportions. And, putting the top up does not mean forgoing sunlight; the X’s folding hardtop includes a transparent moonroof.

The cabin is finished with Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange accents, hues named after the decorative colorings found on traditional Korean wooden building.

Genesis will only say that, like the previous X concepts, the X Convertible is electric. Additional technical information is not available. Were the X Convertible destined for production, we might be hearing more.

CG says:

Hyundai is on a design roll—check out the current G90 for proof—and it’s a bummer that this compelling convertible will probably never see production. That said, Genesis has a lot on its plate right now, what with a GV80 “coupe” and electric GV70 on the way.
