More from the New York Auto Show
Nissan’s three-row midsize SUV was redesigned for 2022, after taking the 2021 model year off. Edgier exterior styling, a more contemporary cabin, a host of new technology features, and a 9-speed automatic transmission in place of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) were key elements of the redesign. The Rock Creek Edition package debuted for the 2019 model year and continued for 2020. For its 2023 revival, Nissan has lopped off “Edition” from the name and stepped up the content level. In addition to the special interior/exterior trim and standard tow-hitch receiver and harness of the previous version, the 2023 Pathfinder Rock Creek boasts an off-road-tuned suspension with a 5/8-inch lift, 18-inch beadlock-style wheels on all-terrain tires, and a tubular roof rack with a load capacity of up to 220 pounds.
Also standard is Nissan’s 360-degree Intelligent Around-View Monitor with Off-Road Mode. The unique trim touches include Rock Creek badging, a dark-finish grille with a mesh insert, orange contrast stitching around the interior, and exclusive leatherette/fabric seat upholstery with Rock Creek Embroidery. The Pathfinder Rock Creek’s 3.5-liter V6 gets revised fuel mapping; Nissan says it makes 295 horsepower when running on premium fuel, and 284 hp when running on regular.
Like the rest of the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder lineup, the Rock Creek is slated to arrive in dealerships late this summer.
CG Says:
This one was pretty much inevitable, especially considering the more-rugged image Nissan aimed for with the Pathfinder’s recent redesign. The adventure-themed “overlander” look is all the rage in SUVs these days—even crossover SUVs that aren’t really designed for serious rock crawling. The Pathfinder Rock Creek’s features should provide a smidge more rough-terrain capability and be just the ticket for a weekend camping trip—or for simply making mom and dad look a little cooler in the school drop-off line.
