Stellantis was busy at the 2023 New York Auto Show. In addition to the 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup, the company’s Jeep division unveiled a facelifted 2024 Wrangler. The brand’s most iconic vehicle receives a revamped front-end design, a freshened interior, and some newly available off-road and convenience tech.

Starting with the styling, Wrangler’s trademark seven-slot grille gets a modern update with a rounder look and bars that remain black instead of body color. The mesh behind the grille is also more open. New for top-line Rubicon models is a factory-installed Warn winch option with an 800-lb pulling capacity.

The biggest change to the interior is the infotainment setup, which now adopts a 12.3-inch touchscreen display running Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 software suite. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as incorporating the Trails Offroad app, which includes interactive guides for 62 “Jeep Badge of Honor” trails. An additional 3,000-plus guides are also available via a subscription.

Drivetrain options for the 2024 Wrangler are unchanged. Most models will come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will remain an extra-cost option that delivers 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The outlandish Wrangler Rubicon 392 also returns with its 6.4-liter V8 that pumps out 470 horsepower and the same amount of torque.

Those more interested in saving fuel will be pleased to see the return of the plug-in hybrid 4xe variant. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine teams with an electric motor to produce a combined 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. A new feature for the 4xe is an available “Power Box” that includes four 120-volt outlets that can provide up to 30 total amps of output from the battery back. An 8-speed automatic is the sole transmission for the four-cylinder and V8. The V6 is available with either the automatic or a 6-speed manual.

Wrangler’s off-road hardware also carries over to the 2024 model including four 4-wheel drive options, two part-time and two full-time. With 12.9 inches of ground clearance, it can ford water up to 34 inches deep. Rubicon models go a step further with a Dana 44 HD solid rear axle, Rock-Trac transfer case with a 4:1 low gear ratio, electronic front sway-bar disconnect, front and rear axle lockers, and 17-inch rims shod with 33-inch all-terrain tires. Standard on the Rubicon 392 and new-for-2024 Rubicon X is the “Xtreme 35 Package” that beefs up the tires to 35 inches and boosts the low-gear ratio to 2.72:1.

The entire 2024 Jeep Wranger roster ascends through Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon, Rubicon X, and Rubicon 392. Two- and four-door body styles are available depending on trim selection. Full pricing will be available closer to the vehicles’ on-sale date later in 2023.

CG Says:

Over the last 20 or so years, Jeep has done a fine job expanding Wrangler’s audience from a niche group of off-road enthusiasts to mainstream buyers who use one as a daily driver. Its 2024 design and tech updates look like they will keep that momentum going.
