VinFast was busy at this year’s CES gathering, showing both the VF3 mini crossover EV, and the VF Wild electric-pickup-truck concept. Though somewhat reminiscent of the Hyundai Santa Cruz compact pickup, the Wild concept is, at 209 inches of length, larger, and more on par with the Rivian R1T in size.

The Wild features four doors, with the rear-doors hinged at the back to allow an unrestricted cabin pass through when all doors are open. The Wild incorporates a cabin “midgate,” which, when the rear seats are folded flat, functionally extends the bed into the cabin, creating space for cargo items up to eight feet in length, up from five feet with the midgate closed.

VinFast did not share technical details, but we assume that a production version of the Wild would be offered with both 2-wheel drive and AWD, and be available with at least two battery options. We think it unlikely that the center-opening doors will make it to production.

CG Says:

While VinFast’s recent spate of future-product news is exciting, we can’t help feel that most of this activity is a smokescreen designed to distract enthusiasts and media from the brand’s badly botched U.S. launch. VinFast sold just 300 cars in the U.S. in 2023, and its flagship crossover, the VF9 has been poorly reviewed. It takes more than just deep pockets and flashy product reveals to make it in the U.S., and we haven’t yet seen signs of a viable North American distribution plan nor any real consumer interest in the brand.
