About 13.9 million vehicles were sold in the U.S. last year. And, if you’ve looked around in traffic recently, you will not be surprised to learn that roughly half of all vehicles sold in American in 2022 were crossovers and SUVs.

Gone are the days when the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry—and often Nissan Altima—dominated the sales charts. Still, the humble midsize sedan, once the vehicle of choice for more than 2 million U.S. shoppers annually, has proven resilient. The Accord and Camry still rack up enviable sales numbers, with the Camry coming in close to 300,000 units last year.

With models such as the Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion, and Volkswagen Passat now retired, shoppers have fewer choices in the non-crossover segment, which may bode well for sales of the vehicles still in play.

Presented here is a list of the best-selling U.S.-market cars—actual cars—of 2022. Note that among the long-running models in the category, a new sedan now ranks among the best sellers, the Tesla Model Y. Not only has the Y made the list in the American market, it is also the best-selling electric sedan in the world.

Check out the list and tell us what you think. Is the sedan dead in this market, or is there a comeback on the horizon?
