The rollout is starting in the pizza chain?s home state of Michigan with 12 Bolts currently on the road with plans to increase that to 93 by the end of the year. Domino?s officials declined to outline specific dollar figures, both in terms of total investment and how much the vehicles would cost their franchisees to acquire. What we do know is that the vehicles will be available as part of a lease-to-own system. The consumer version of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV starts at $26,595, including $995 destination fee. The company is likely getting some volume discount, which will likely be balanced out by extra costs associated with upfitting the vehicles for delivery duty.

The company is going electric as part of its commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Officials also cited low maintenance costs for EVs as well as the potential for new drivers to join the company who might not otherwise have their own vehicles.

CG Says:

From its menu to its marketing strategy, Domino?s has never been afraid to try new ways of making its brand stand out from other large pizza chains. The addition of electric delivery vehicles is another step in that direction that should pay dividends as long as the switch is affordable for franchisees.
