CG Says:

It’s interesting to note that though Audi makes the Q5 available with the gasoline 2.0T engine, it opted not to offer the company’s  same-displacement 2.0-liter TDI in the compact crossover. Instead, the Q5 is offered with the same smooth and stout 3.0-liter V6 diesel that can be found in the brand’s uplevel A6 and A8 sedans. Our observed 27.5 mpg falls nicely between the EPA city and highway estimates for the Q5, and is nearly 8 mpg better than we saw in a Q5 with the standard gasoline engine. Note that we observed 34.4 mpg in a TDI version of the brand’s A8 flagship equipped with the same V6 diesel engine. Credit the A8’s superior aerodynamics and a greater bias toward highway driving during our evaluation.
