To celebrate its 70th birthday, Chevrolet is launching the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. This will mark the legendary performance car’s leap into the electric age, as well as the first time it will offer the enhanced traction of all-wheel drive.

The E-Ray is essentially a Corvette hybrid. It has the same mid-mounted 6.2-liter gas V8 engine as the standard model, laying down 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The “E” in E-Ray comes from a 160-horsepower electric motor powered by a 1.9 kWh battery pack, which sends power to the front wheels. It’s a similar principle to what Toyota employs for its AWD hybrid models such as the Prius and RAV4.

E-Ray does not require plug-in charging. Drivers can choose “Stealth Mode” to operate the vehicle completely on the battery at speeds up to 45 mph. The company was mum on the amount of range this offers as well as the potential fuel-economy benefits, though they did say the electric motor also assists the Active Fuel Management feature, allowing the gas engine to run on four cylinders for extended periods under the right driving conditions.

The combination of gas engine and electric motor can propel the car from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, while running the quarter mile in just 10.5 seconds, according to Chevrolet. Aiding the AWD system are 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels and GM’s Magnetic Ride Control 4.0. It all comes to a stop with carbon ceramic Brembo brakes.

On the outside, the E-Ray shares its wide-body styling with the ultra-performance Corvette Z06. Available exterior treatments will include 14 paint colors, black exhaust tips, bright finish badges, and carbon fiber wheels and ground effects. The cabin will offer a choice of seven interior colors, two carbon fiber trim packages, and complementary “deep green” accents.

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will go on sale later this year as a coupe or hardtop convertible, with prices starting at $104,295 and $111,295, respectively. Expect the production run to sell out quickly with any available retail models commanding a significant premium above MSRP.

CG Says

E-Ray is the next logical step in the evolution of Chevrolet’s flagship vehicle. The extra performance, handling, and all-weather capability of the AWD system make an already attractive sports car even more so. While its standard six-figure pricing looks steep, compared to other exotic brands, we think the E-Ray looks like a bargain.
