Buick recently unveiled more details about its upcoming Electra E5 SUV. While this EV launched for the Chinese market, a North American version is likely to debut in calendar 2024 as a 2025 model.

2025 Buick Electra E5
The Electra E5 will be the brand’s first to use the Ultium EV platform, which is found on other General Motors products like the Cadillac LYRIQ and Chevrolet Silverado EV. Honda is also leveraging the tech for its upcoming Acura ZDX. The E5 should have similar performance and range as the LYRIQ, so approximately 340 horsepower with 300 miles of driving.
While its exterior styling is rather non-descript, the interior is a technological showcase. The primary instrumentation and infotainment interface use a single 30-inch, ultra-widescreen OLED panel. Connectivity will include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a built-in 5G modem for high-speed data access. There will also be digital key functionality that allows users to access and start the vehicle using their phones. Drivers can choose from 121 colors of ambient interior lighting that can be synchronized with any music they might be listening to.
Details on North American-specific features should be available closer to the E5’s launch. If we had to guess, pricing will probably start in the neighborhood of $50,000.

It makes sense that China will be the first to receive the Electra E5 as Buick is revered there like Rolls-Royce is in other parts of the world. While GM could have taken some more risks with the exterior styling, we hope the interior design comes to North America unchanged. The OLED instrument/infotainment panel is a really cool piece of tech while the seats look limousine-plush. Priced correctly, the E5 could be a real winner in its target segment.
