2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon

Ford has announced it will introduce a redesigned Transit Connect small van for 2014. The first two versions that the company has confirmed are 5- and 7- passenger wagons. Like today’s Transit Connect, these new vans will be front-wheel drive. There is no word yet on a redesigned cargo version.

The 2014 Transit Connect Wagon will come in two sizes. The 5-spassenger models will run a 104.8-inch wheelbase and have an overall length of 173.9 inches. The 7-passenger model will use a 120.6-inch wheelbase and will be 189.7 inches long. The current-generation Transit Connect is sized between the two new versions.

Two engines will be available. Ford’s 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine will be standard, and the 1.6-liter EcoBoost will be optional. The lone transmission in the United States will be a 6-speed automatic. EPA fuel economy estimates are not yet available, but Ford claims that an EcoBoost-powered Transit Connect Wagon will achieve at least 30 mpg on the highway.

Transit Connect Wagons will be available in XL, XLT, and top-line Titanium versions. Interiors can be trimmed in vinyl, cloth, or leather upholstery. According to Ford, the 2nd- and 3rd-row seats will fold flat to form a large cargo area. Available features will include a navigation system, MyFord Touch, a panoramic sunroof, and an electric windshield defroster.

The Transit Connect Wagon is projected to go on sale in the United States during the fourth quarter of 2013. Production will take place at Ford’s plant in Valencia, Spain.
