Future Car The high-performance version of Acura’s first fully electric vehicle recently entered development testing. Shod in a unique camouflage wrap, the 2024 ZDX Type-S will, according to a press release, “continue to put the driver experience first and will exemplify Acura’s unyielding commitment to delivering on the Precision Crafted Performance brand promise.”

ZDX will borrow many of its exterior styling elements from the Acura Precision EV Concept while General Motors will supply its underskin design and Ultium battery tech. Future Acura EVs, slated to come online in 2026, will utilize parent company Honda’s own e:Architecture platform.

If the ZDX name sounds familiar that’s because it was used on a vehicle the brand sold between model years 2010 and 2013. It was Acura’s attempt at a “crossover coupe,” similar to the BMW X6, Infiniti QX55, and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. It used the same running gear as the second-generation Acura MDX but had a maximum seating capacity of five rather than seven.

The fully electric ZDX will launch some time in calendar 2023. That’s the extent of the information Acura has revealed at this time.

CG Says:

The first-generation ZDX is the definition of a modern cult car. Fewer than 6,200 units were sold in the US over its production run. There aren’t more than a couple dozen available for sale across the country at any given time with most of those examples having significantly more than 100,000 miles. We found one dealer with a rare 2013 model that has less than 10,000 miles who is asking a cool $35,000. The upcoming all-electric ZDX isn’t likely to achieve similar notoriety, but we are excited to see the performance potential of the Type-S variant.
