The Kia GT4 Stinger Concept routes 315 horsepower through the rear wheels.

DETROIT – A product of Kia’s Irvine, California design studio, the Kia GT4 Stinger follows in the wake of concepts including the Track’ster and Cross GT.

The Stinger sports a fairly simple interior because, according to Kia, “The GT4 Stinger is a throwback to days when driving a car was a visceral experience that wasn’t muted by electronic gimmickry.”

Kia’s take on the pony car, Stinger boasts rear-wheel drive and a turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0-liter engine good for 315 horsepower.

Kia calls this color “Ignition Yellow.”

At about 170 inches end-to-end, Stinger slots in size somewhere between the Hyundai Veloster (166 inches) and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe (182).

Per Kia, “While there are currently no plans to bring the concept to production, Kia has a history of delivering production vehicles that bear a strong resemblance to the concept that preceded them, and the GT4 Stinger provides a possible and highly provocative glimpse into Kia’s future.”

CG Says:

If you take Camaro and Mustang out of the equation, small rear-drive coupe sales aren’t setting the world on fire. That said, we’d love a chance to sample Kia’s take on the pony car. Affordability would be key to the success of a production version of the GT4 Stinger, but value is generally not a problem for Kia.
