I don’t usually pay too much attention to the color of vehicles in the Consumer Guide evaluation fleet, though Senior Editor Damon Bell does. However, we both took notice of the paint on a Lexus ES 350 that recently spent some time at the office.
Local Color: Unusual Paint Hues at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show
Called Sunlit Green, this color option is offered only on the ES 350; no other Lexus models are offered with it, and it is available at no cost.
The most striking characteristic of this color is that, under some light conditions, it demonstrates a certain subtle iridescence, as if it is somehow backlit. I also just like the shade, which is something outside of the common-car palette these days, and reminds me of the hard candy you sometimes see at the cashier’s counter at friendlier restaurants (I’m looking at you, Graziano’s).
No fewer than three people commented to me on this color, all favorably. While it saddens me that most Lexus sedans will leave the factory this year clad is silver, black, or white, it makes me happy that this slightly adventurous hue can be had by the customer looking for something just a little out of the ordinary.
