2019 Mecum Chicago Auction GalleryLike it does every October, the Mecum Auctions road show rolled in to the Schaumberg Convention Center in Schaumberg, Illinois, late last month. As usual, the Mecum Chicago event boasted its share of big-ticket, six-figure classics—the top seller of this year’s show was a rare Calypso Coral 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 (pictured below) that went for $275,000.

2020 Jeep Gladiator

While FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) isn’t setting many sales records with its cars, its trucks are on fire. Jeep is maintaining its traditionally strong sales numbers, and Ram pickups have recently outsold Chevrolet’s (!!!) to become the nation’s #2-selling trucks behind the Ford F-Series. That’s huge.

2019 Chevrolet Express Police Van

Yes, Police Van! sounds like the name of failed Eighties cop action/drama series, but to General Motors, the van depicted above is an integral part of its 2019 police and fleet-vehicle product portfolio–and much to our surprise, it hasn’t been cancelled yet.

Mazda Ice Academy

Running a slalom course … in the snow … in a Miata … with the top down was just one of the enlightening experiences of the first Mazda Ice Academy.

“We encourage you to go over the limit.”

That opening (and potentially career-ending) comment was delivered by Mazda product specialist Ramana Lagemann, and–trust me–it was a phrase none of the assembled auto journalists had ever before heard at a press preview. In fact, most manufacturers spend a great deal of (entirely justified) time imploring us NOT to go over the limit, as things quickly get expensive when we do. Just ask any prematurely grey PR rep.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Worker

2016 Chicago Auto ShowTo combat lower-priced rivals that have recently entered the commercial van segment, Mercedes-Benz introduced a cost-competitive version of its venerable Sprinter at the Chicago Auto Show called the Sprinter Worker.

The Sprinter Worker, its $33,490 starting price (including destination) undercuts the existing Sprinter 2500 by roughly $4000, yet it includes air conditioning, power windows, Crosswind Assist, and a 161-horsepower 2.1-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine. It also boasts a 3512-lb payload capacity, 5000-lb towing capacity, 319 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and a 137.4-inch floor length. Worker is due to go on sale late spring.

Jeep Trailhawk Concept

Jeep’s Trailhawk concept looks more like a next-generation Grand Cherokee than a Wrangler, but nonetheless includes design elements that could appear on the next Wrangler.

Future Car

Today’s Jeep Wrangler was originally introduced for the 2007 model year. It remains one of Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s best sellers, but at more than eight years old, it’s officially getting a bit long in the tooth. Given that the Jeep Wrangler is one of the most iconic, tradition-bound vehicles on the market today, FCA doesn’t want to veer very far from Wrangler’s tried-and-true formula with the forthcoming new-generation model. Still, uncertain fuel prices and tightening efficiency standards in the United States mean the redesigned “JL” generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler must address the current JK model’s greatest weakness: Fuel economy.

2015 Chevrolet City Express

The 2015 Chevrolet City Express is built by Nissan, but there’s more to the story.

First, the basics: The Chevrolet City Express is a Nissan NV200 sporting a unique grille and a few nominal tweaks. The City is built in the same Mexican assembly facility, and, like the NV, is offered exclusively with a powertrain borrowed from the Nissan Sentra.

Just getting that out of the way, because there’s so much more to the story…

Minivan MPG, Most Fuel-Efficient Minivans

There’s a 6-mpg spread between the thriftiest and thirstiest 2015 minivans. Here’s how these family-friendly people movers stack up when it comes to fuel economy.

Listed below is every 2015 model-year minivan ranked by fuel economy, as per the EPA. Included is the EPA’s estimated annual fuel cost for each model (which is calculated assuming 15,000 miles of driving and a fuel price of $2.80 per gallon).

Chrysler 300 AWD, Chryslers in Snow

Chrysler demonstrates that snow days can be fun—even for adults.

Snow day.

Those were once magical words.

As kids, after peering out our bedroom windows to see that Mother Nature had blessed us with a fresh, thick blanket of white overnight, my sister and I would sit at the breakfast table eagerly waiting for the phone to ring. And on those all-too-rare occasions when it did, there would be a moment of anticipation followed by a rousing cheer: “Snow day!” Chryslers in snow.
