Pony-Car Madness! 10 Classic Mustang Ads

1975 Ford Mustang II Mach 1

If you give the Ford Mustang credit for anything, it should be resiliency. Introduced in 1964 as a ’65 model, the Mustang has been in continuous production ever since.

The definitive member of what would become a class of vehicles known as pony cars, the Mustang would outlive a large collection of competitive vehicles, only one of which, Chevrolet Camaro, remains in production.

Pony cars that have come and gone during the ‘Stang’s 50-plus-year reign include the AMC Javelin, Dodge Challenger, Mercury Capri, Mercury Cougar, Plymouth Barracuda, and Pontiac Firebird.

A number of other cars are often listed among these rides as members of the Pony segment, depending on how the class is defined.

As for the Camaro, it survives to this day, but a 2003-2009 production hiatus makes it subservient to the Mustang as a pony-car legend, at least in our eyes.

Note: We haven’t forgotten that the Dodge Challenger made a comeback several years back. However, the current-generation Challenger is based on the architecture of a full-size sedan and is really too large and too heavy to be considered a pony car.

To celebrate the original pony, we have amassed ten classic Mustang print ads, and one classic TV commercial. Please enjoy them all. Also, if you have an all-time favorite Mustang, tell us what it is. The Place to leave comments is below the last ad.
