Sometime in the middle of the Eighties, Americans developed an appetite—albeit a modest one—for pint-sized sport-utility vehicles with legitimate off-road capability. Early on the scene were the Suzuki Samurai and the Daihatsu Rocky. Few people actually recall Daihatsu’s brief flirtation with the U.S. market—briefly, Daihatsu sold cars Stateside between 1988 and 1992. Only two models were ever offered here: the aforementioned Rocky, and a subcompact car dubbed Charade.
Ford took the wraps off a special-edition Bronco at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, but if you aren’t already a Bronco reservation holder, you probably won’t be able to buy one new.
The 2022 Ford Bronco Everglades special edition starts with the Bronco’s off-road-focused Sasquatch Package and gets several unique features—key among them factory-installed air-intake snorkel, WARN-brand winch, and exclusive wheels—on top of that.
At the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, Nissan is unveiling a trio of pickup-truck concepts based on its redesigned-for-2022 Frontier midsize pickup. As concept vehicles go, these are pretty down-to-earth machines—they’re all based on the regular-production 2022 Frontier, with the addition of readily available Nissan Accessories components and aftermarket accessories, as well as a few custom one-off pieces and body graphics.
Last night, Toyota unveiled an all-new version of the largest SUV in its model lineup. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has been redesigned from the ground up, inaugurating the model’s third generation and introducing a standard gas/electric hybrid powertrain, a new luxury trim level, and lots of new features.
