What is a Kilowatt?

Reddy Kilowatt was a corporate mascot first used by the Alabama Power Company in 1926. Reddy was part of a campaign to encourage Americans to embrace electric power.
If you’ve been hearing or reading about electric vehicles, you’ve likely come across the word “kilowatt.” The vernacular of the EV is somewhat different than that of gas- or diesel-powered cars. Gone are words and terms like gallon and horsepower, replaced by the likes of kilowatt (kW) and kilowatt hour (kWh).

2023 Toyota Prius
Revealed at a private event in advance of the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota officially unveiled the next version of its Prius gas/electric and Prius Prime plug-in hybrids. These fifth-generation hatchbacks get a sleek new look, a revised battery pack, and up-to-date safety and connectivity tech. The company also claims that the standard Prius hybrid will achieve 57 mpg in combined city/highway driving.
