The 2013 Kia Rio should see few changes following its redesign for 2012. Kia’s subcompact car is available as a 4-door sedan and as a 4-door hatchback that’s called Rio 5.
Test Drive: 2018 Kia Rio 5-Door
Trim levels for both body styles include LX, EX, and sporty SX. All use a 138-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine. Transmission choices are a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. EX models are available with a start/stop feature that’s designed to save fuel. It shuts down the engine when the car is not moving and instantly restarts it when the driver removes his or her foot from the brake pedal. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. A tilt and telescopic steering wheel is standard on all Rio models. Power windows/locks/mirrors and a wireless cell-phone link are standard on EX and SX. A rearview camera and Kia’s UVO infotainment system are standard on SX and optional on EX. A Power Package for LX models with automatic transmission adds power windows and locks, along with remote keyless entry. A Convenience Package for EX models adds 15-inch alloy wheels, UVO, rearview camera, automatic headlamps, power-folding side mirrors with turn signal indicators, fog lamps, illuminated visor mirrors, and map lights.
