Honda unveiled prototypes of its new 0 Series electric vehicles at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2025 in Las Vegas. Dubbed 0 SUV and 0 Saloon, these vehicles mark the next evolution for the Japanese automaker’s EV and autonomous driving programs.
The SUV is slated to be the first to reach North American roads and will be the entry point into the 0 Series lineup. The Saloon represents the flagship and will arrive later. Both models would look right at home in the “2015” scenes from the beginning of Back to the Future: Part II. We’ll let you decide if you believe the designs are forward thinking or stuck in neutral.
Honda is adopting a “Thin, Light, and Wise” mantra for the 0 Series interiors. Expansive glass greenhouses lead the way, creating what should be an airy-feeling cabin. As expected, the dashboard is entirely screen, divided into sections for instrumentation, infotainment, and more.
Connectivity
ASIMO OS will govern many key functions for these new EVs. Developed entirely in-house, the software is named after the automaker’s famous “humanoid robot” that itself premiered at CES more than two decades prior. In addition to typical user interface functionality, the new OS will manage autonomous driving functions. Honda is targeting Level 3 (eyes off) compliance for the 0 Series. Instead of computer graphics giant NVIDIA, which has been making significant inroads in the auto industry, Honda will receive the necessary systems-on-chip (SoC) from Japanese semiconductor firm Renesas Electronics.
Power and Performance
No details pertaining to the 0 Series’ drivetrains were announced so we don’t know power output, battery capacity, nor projected driving range. Honda did reaffirm its commitment to the new IONNA network, which is a joint venture supported by eight automakers to provide up to 30,000 new EV charging stations by 2030.
The Honda 0 Series SUV and Saloon will be manufactured at the company’s “EV Hub” in Ohio starting in 2026. North American customers will get their hands on these vehicles first, followed shortly by Japan and other global markets. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of production.
CG Says:
Both Honda 0 Series vehicles boast, let’s call it, “unique” styling. They are prototypes so hopefully we’ll see some refinement when the production models are ready. We are eager to experience Honda’s Level 3 autonomous driving tech and its new-from-the-ground-up operating system. We’re also hopeful the automaker can pull some impressive power and figures while not being overly aggressive on pricing.
