On the eve of the 2024 New York Auto Show, Genesis revealed the first of a line of performance-oriented models designed to spice up the luxury maker’s portfolio of sedans and crossovers.
The GV60 Magma Concept, based on the production GV60 small electric crossover, features a number of modifications, including unique wide-body fenders, special 21-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, and a substantial body kit including lower bodyside trim and specific front- and rear-fascia updates.

Genesis offered no insights as to the GV60 Magma’s mechanical specs, though as the crossover is mechanically related to Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 EV crossover, it is likely that the Magma would share the high-performance 5 N’s 641-horsepower drivetrain.
Genesis promises to offer a Magma version of every vehicle in its lineup, sharing images of several upgraded vehicle including the GV80 Coupe Concept, X Gran Berlinetta Concept, and the G80 midsize sedan.
“Genesis Magma presents an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury for new interpretations in high-performance vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing models exclusive to Genesis,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. “The brand will continue to reveal experimental concepts with careful consideration of both technological and aesthetic elements. While speed and performance are important, the Genesis Magma program will look beyond, prioritizing the driving experience to kindle the joy of sporty driving with effortless comfort.”
For now the GV60 Magma is just a concept, but we expect to see a production variant as soon as 2025.

CG Says:
Just when we thought Genesis was going to eschew performance—focusing on immersive luxury coddling instead—this whole Magma things pops up. We love the look, and as long as the core Genesis models remain as classy and as refined as they currently are, we’re totally cool with this.
