Overview

Dubbed “STLA Medium,” this platform marks the first of four that the conglomerate plans to release in the near term. It’s slated for use in cars and SUVs in the “C” (compact) and “D” (midsize) vehicle segments and can be adapted for front- or all-wheel-drive applications.

Specs

The design utilizes a 400-volt electric architecture that the company says, “will deliver best-in-class energy efficiency and charging time…” Stellantis projects owners being able to recharge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in 27 minutes at a rate of 2.4 kWh per minute. Two battery packs can be used within the STLA Medium framework, a “Standard” version rated for up to 310 miles of range and a high-capacity “Performance” pack that increases this to 435 miles.

The launch of STLA Medium is part of the company’s plan to reach 100% EV sales in Europe and 50% in the US by 2030. The first vehicles to utilize the new platform will debut in Europe, with production expected to start later in 2023.

CG Says

The projected range of the STLA Medium Performance battery pack has our attention. If a vehicle so equipped is able to achieve such distance on a single charge, we think a lot more EV-averse shoppers could very change their minds. Hopefully models so equipped will be available at prices the general public can afford.
