On January 30, Ford announced a significant price cut for its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. New Mach-E vehicles will now cost up to $5,700 less than they did at the start of the new year, though Ford has raised the mandatory manufacturer destination fee to $1,500 from $1,300.

The entry-level Select grade with rear-wheel drive, not inclusive of destination, now starts at $45,995, a $700 reduction. The Select with dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) sees just a $400 cut to $49,495. The mid-level Premium drops $3,480-$3,780 depending on drive selection. With the Premium now starting at less than $55,000, it becomes eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. The biggest discounts can be found at the top of the model range, with the California Route 1 and flagship GT variants seeing their prices slashed by $5,350-$5,700, respectively. It’s also worth noting that the extended-range battery is now a $7,000 option instead of $8,600.
Along with the price cuts, Ford announced that it will be scaling up Mach-E production worldwide to 130,000 units in 2023, up from 78,000 in 2022.
Customers who placed orders before the reductions, but have not yet received their vehicles, will have their pricing adjusted. Ford plans to contact buyers who took delivery of their Mach-E after January 1, but no additional details were revealed of what, if any, compensation they can expect.
As of this writing, other automakers have not announced similar price reductions to their electric vehicles. Last June, General Motors slashed the cost of its Chevrolet Bolt EV by about $6,000.
CG Says:
Ford claims the Mach-E discounts are the result of supply-chain improvements, which makes sense since they also plan to significantly increase production. However, the timing of this announcement is rather suspicious considering that it came very quickly after Tesla said it’s cutting the prices of its entire portfolio by up to 20 percent. Regardless, this move is a win for consumers, especially since more Mach-E models are now eligible for a federal tax credit.
