Ford is one of the first automakers to offer compatibility with the upgraded Tesla supercharging network, and the brand is providing its EV customers free adapters to connect to it. From now until June 30, any owner of a model-year 2021-2024 Ford EV in the US or Canada can fill out an online form to request their complimentary adapter, which will be shipped out on a first-come, first-served basis.

This offer is valid on a per-vehicle, rather than a per-household basis so if you have both a Mustang Mach-E and an F-150 Lightning, you can receive two adapters. EVs used for commercial purposes also qualify with the Ford Pro fleet division handling those customers.
There are a few caveats and restrictions. Only Ford EVs that support DC Fast Charging and the BlueOval charging network can operate on Tesla’s system. If you have a Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, or E-Transit, you’re good. The 2012-2016 Focus EV and all plug-in gas/electric hybrid models are out of luck. Further, the complimentary adapter is not compatible with Level 1 or 2 chargers, including the Tesla Destination Charger and other household models that employ the North American Charging Standard (NACS/SAE J3400) connector.
Ford says no software updates are required to use Tesla chargers with the adapter, but the company recommends owners keep their vehicles as current as possible to maximize the experience.
From July 1, 2024, onward Tesla supercharger adapters for compatible vehicles will be available from Ford for a cost of $230.

Public charging availability and reliability continues to be a major sticking point for EV adoption. Tesla opening its well-fleshed-out network to other automakers is potentially a huge step forward for overcoming this hurdle. We’re pleased Ford is stepping up to make the transition as smooth as possible for its EV customers, though the limited-time nature of their free adapter offer is a touch off-putting. We’d like to see the company include them with new EV purchases going forward.
