Hot on the heels of the 2023 Acura Integra being named the North American Car of the Year, Honda’s premium division announced its plans to offer a high-performance Type-S variant for the 2024 model year.

A camouflaged prototype made its North American debut at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona race, which raN January 28-29. The Type-S will more of less be an “Acura-ized” version of the Honda Civic Type-R. No notable details of the powertrain or features were announced – only the fact that the car will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine “producing over 300 horsepower and paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission and limited slip differential,” according to a press release. For reference, the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R’s 2.0-liter turbo engine makes 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It’s possible the Integra could get a few more ponies as a way to distinguish itself from its “mainstream” cousin especially since both vehicles use a hatchback body style.
At the 24 Hours of Daytona race, Acura will compete in the GTD class with a pair of NSX GT3 Evo22 models. GTD-class cars resemble their production counterparts, with Acura’s entries using a turbocharged V6 engine. The NSX GT3s will compete with the likes of Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, McLaren, and Porsche.
New for 2023 is the GTP class, which will consist of prototype racers. Acura is bringing their electrified ARX-06, which will go head-to-head with concepts from BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche.
The 2024 Acura Integra Type-S is slated to launch this summer. Pricing will be revealed closer to that time, but expect the sticker to be several thousand dollars north of the $43,295 Honda wants for the Civic Type-R, not inclusive of additional dealer markup.
Acura: The Racing in its Blood
CG Says:
While the Integra Type-S will surely be a blast to drive, will it be distinctive enough from the Civic Type-R to justify what will surely be a steep price premium? Arguably more interesting are the two electrified concept race cars as we expect more of these to start hitting the track in the immediate future. Hopefully some of the more exotic tech that makes these cars function will end up making their way to consumer-facing vehicles.
