It’s not quite as big a deal as a new pope, but for the folks at Subaru, a redesigned Forester is pretty big news. Though the Japanese maker retails eight models in the U.S., just three of them, the Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback, account for about 75 percent of all sales.
Sporting new sheet metal, an updated cabin, plenty of new tech, and an enhanced chassis that is said to be 10-percent stiffer than that of the previous-generation Forester, the new small crossover seems to have been fully modernized.
Not changed is the Forester drivetrain, which is still comprised of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT automatic transmission. Expectedly, all 2025 Foresters will again come with standard AWD.
The big news for tech lovers is a larger touchscreen, which grows meaningfully from 7.0 inches in size to 11.6. Subaru’s branded EyeSight suite of safety and convenience features is enhanced for 2025, including a number of updates, including bicycle detection.
Returning are base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and topline Touring trim levels. Expect an announcement regarding a trail-ready Wilderness Edition relative soon.

CG Says:
The Forester is a bread-and-butter model for Subaru, and one on which much consumer brand loyalty is based. We see nothing here that would compromise the Japanese maker’s relationship with its most ardent followers, thought we wouldn’t mind seeing some additional muscle under the hood.
