With Kia having recently launched its all-electric EV9 three-row SUV, Volvo is readying its own entry the 2024 EX90.
EX90s exterior styling follows the same general look as the brands other electric vehicles with a smooth front grille and taillights that flow down from the rear roof pillars. Volvos trademark Thors hammer headlights have been updated to feature a mechanism that moves the daytime running lights out of the way when nighttime low or high beams are needed. Company officials say theyre the most complex headlights theyve ever used on one of their vehicles, and we have to say it looks pretty slick.

While the interior has the same Swedish minimalism that Volvo is well-known for, that doesnt mean its lacking in the technology department. Called a highly advanced computer on wheels, EX90 utilizes a combination of third-party and in-house developed hardware and software to facilitate user interaction. The 14.5-inch, portrait oriented central screen is the gateway to an infotainment system with Google built-in services. Wireless Apple CarPlay is also included. A standard 5G embedded modem allows for faster system updates and app installs.
How Much Does it Cost to Charge an EV?
Volvo claims the EX90 will have the most advanced safety suite of any vehicle its ever made. A series of cameras, radar, and lidar sensors report real-time data to the SUVs internal computers. The company claims the system can see even small objects at faraway distances, giving drivers more time to react and avoid potential hazards. Inside the vehicle, a pair of sensors and a capacitive steering wheel are designed to detect if a driver is drowsy or distracted and step in if there are potential problems.
Propulsion will come from a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that relies on a 111-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Volvo projects up to 300 miles of range and a maximum towing capacity of 4,850 lb. Total output is about 517 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque. EX90 will support DC fast charging to bring the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Bi-directional, which would turn the vehicle into a mobile power station, is expected to be available some time after it goes on sale. As for the rest of the EX90s green credentials, Volvo says it will utilize 15 percent recycled steel, 25 percent recycled aluminum, and about 15 percent recycled plastic.
Volvo is accepting reservations for the EX90 right now. Buyers can put down a refundable $500 deposit to secure their place in line, though deliveries are not expected until some time in calendar 2024. Pricing will be announced closer to that time, though the companys consumer website says Well-equipped for under $80,000, which we assume does not include the mandatory destination fee.

CG Says:
Volvos other electric vehicles, including the C40 Recharge and Consumer Guide® Best Buy winning XC40 Recharge impress with their stylish designs, upscale interiors and refined performance. The EX90 looks like it will embrace those characteristics, just on a larger scale.
