CHICAGO — Hot on the heels of Volvo’s new V60 wagon and the company’s new Drive-E 4-cylinder powertrains come high-performance versions of the S60 sedan and V60 wagon.
The S60 and V60 Polestar models are modified by Volvo’s long-time performance partner and are available in black as well as Polestar’s signature “Rebel Blue” paint. Both models feature a 345-horsepower 3.0-liter inline six with new twin-scroll turbocharger linked to a paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic and Haldex all-wheel drive. Volvo says the combination is good for a 0-60-mph time of 4.9 seconds, making these the quickest Volvos ever. Also on board are 20-inch wheels, Brembo-brand brakes, launch control, active exhaust, stiffer springs, and aero body aids. Expect these savage Swedes to go on sale in June, but note that only 120 will be offered in the U.S.
CG Says:
For those not in the know, Polestar Racing is Volvo’s factory racing team currently competing in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. Polestar thus strikes us as a fitting name for this pair of high-performance Volvos. Does the world really need a Volvo that blasts from 0-60 mph in under five seconds? No, but we’re sincerely glad there is one.
