Overview
After receiving a mild refresh for 2021, the Jaguar F-Type lineup is pared down for 2022, as both the 4-cylinder and V6 engine are discontinued. The new base engine is a supercharged V8 that delivers 444 horsepower and can be found in a new trim level named P450. The only other engine available is the R trim level’s supercharged 575-hp 5.0-liter V8. The F-Type’s styling was updated last year with new slim LED headlights and subtly changed sheetmetal outside, along with a high-definition virtual instrument cluster in the cabin. The suspension was also revised. The F-Type is a front-engine, rear- or all-wheel-drive 2-passenger coupe and convertible. Jaguar claims the high-performance R has a top speed of 186 mph and is capable of accelerating 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Prices and Equipment
The P450 RWD model comes standard with six-way power-adjustable seats. The P450 R-Dynamic AWD model adds 12-way power-adjustable seats with memory function, electrically adjustable steering wheel with memory function, and unique trim touches. Available features include autonomous braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot alert, driver attention monitor, rear-traffic monitor, ceramic brakes, heated/cooled seats, and parallel-parking assist. The F-Type is a true sports car that revives the spirit of the classic Jaguar coupes and roadsters of the 1960s. The R-Dynamic is probably the best value, with most of the performance of the R and similar handling. Though the loss of 4-cylinder and V6 models leaves the F-Type shoppers with fewer options, the new P450 V8 models are competitively priced below the discontinued V6 models. The F-Type remains a compelling alternative to the rival BMW, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche models.

Review
The 2022 Jaguar F-Type impresses on the road. Yes, the horsepower numbers no longer impress us as much as they did a few years ago, especially as super-fast electric cars arrive on the scene. And, the infotainment system interface feels dated, and the touchscreen looks tiny by contemporary standards. All that said, we don’t really care much. The F-Type is a rewarding car to drive aggressively, or to simply cruise in around town. The body structure is impressively rigid for a convertible, and the cabin is clubby and inviting. Some of us grew weary of the exhaust note–which is always pretty loud–but the rest of us found it a charming part of the F-Type experience. Looking for something on the classic side of the sports-car spectrum? Consider the F-Type.
