2024 Subaru Crosstrek
Subaru unveiled the 2024 Crosstrek at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show. This compact SUV will enter its third design generation with revised styling and updated features.
Crosstrek debuted for the 2012 model year as the brand’s smallest SUV. It was an instant hit with both brand loyalists and newcomers, becoming its best-selling vehicle. Since launch, it has sold more than one million total units.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Subaru’s first plug-in hybrid will be making its public debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Based on the Crosstrek compact crossover that was redesigned last year, the Hybrid (Subaru doesn’t include “Plug-In” in the official name, but it does on the car’s badges) pairs a 2.0-liter flat-four engine with two electric motors. One of the motors is used to start the engine at stops and as a generator to recharge the lithium-ion battery, the other to help power the car and charge the battery under braking. As with the “regular” Crosstrek, the Hybrid comes standard with all-wheel drive, making it one of the few all-wheel-drive hybrids — and one of the least-expensive AWD plug-in hybrids — on the market.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek
Subaru’s smallest crossover just keeps on getting better.
When introduced for 2013, the XV Crosstrek was essentially Subaru’s Impreza compact wagon set on stilts. Simplistic as that may sound, it was a formula the company had used nearly two decades earlier to turn the ho-hum Legacy wagon into the wildly successful Outback. And while the XV Crosstrek never quite matched its larger sibling in sales, the redesigned version arriving later this summer certainly has a chance to narrow the gap.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek
Subaru debuted its redesigned 2018 Crosstrek today at the 2017 New York Auto Show. Similar in appearance and concept to the outgoing model, the new one adds numerous features and a bit more power.
Test Drive: 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Although the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek starts at less than $23,000 including destination (that’s with manual transmission), our tester was the top-line Limited that starts at just under $26,000, and was boosted to a bit less than $29,000 with some useful options.
