Stellantis recently took the wraps off the 2024 Ram Rampage. However, before you get excited at the prospect of a new rival to Ford’s popular Maverick, know that this upcoming small pickup truck won’t be sold in North America. At least for the short and medium term, Rampage will be exclusive to Argentina and Brazil.
As with other Stellantis vehicles like the Charger and Challenger, Rampage is a name from the past, this time from a small pickup that was produced in the early 1980s and based on the successful Omni hatchback.
Like the 80s Rampage, the 2024 version employs unibody construction as opposed to the more common body-on-frame design. When you see its exterior styling, you can pretty easily tell that much of it was penned in the United States. It looks like a pint-sized version of the wildly popular Ram 1500 full-size truck.
The cabin adopts a different design motif that is tailored to suit the needs of its market. Instead of a large, portrait-oriented infotainment display like on the Ram 1500, the Rampage adopts a more traditional widescreen landscape unit. Overall, at least based on the few teaser photos provided by Stellantis, the cabin seems to take after the Dodge Hornet as opposed to the company’s other Ram and Jeep products.
The engine also comes from Stellantis’ North American stable. It’s the 2.0-liter “Hurricane” turbocharged 4-cylinder found in models like the Jeep Compass and Wrangler. That’s basically all we know about the drivetrain. If we had to guess, expect the motor to output closer to the 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque available in the Wrangler as opposed to the 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of the Compass.
Complete specifications and pricing will be available closer to the truck’s late-2023 on-sale date. As Rampage was designed specifically for the South American market, we expect starting prices to be relatively affordable.
CG Says:
The 2024 Rampage has all the makings of being an absolute home run in the regions where it will be sold. Given the popularity of the similarly sized Ford Maverick, we wonder why a version of this little rig isn’t slated for a North American release. Maybe if there’s enough clamoring from the general public, the powers that be at Stellantis will reconsider.
