Longest Lasting Vehicles

2019 GMC Yukon

Is 200,000 miles the new 100,000 miles? Maybe not, but the number of vehicles reaching the 200,000-mile mark seems to be on the rise. According to the analysts at vehicle-retail site iSeeCars.com, just under one percent of all cars, crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks will go that distance–presumably to the delight of their owners.

2005 Ford Excursion

2005 Ford Excursion

There were two good reasons for the demise of the Ford Excursion, and only one really good reason for it to have been built in the first place.

Addressing the former: Gas prices rose alarmingly during the Excursion’s brief tenure in Ford’s product lineup. Also, there was probably a finite market for 7000-pound SUVs, and what demand there was for such a vehicle had been met fairly quickly in the Excursion’s 2000-05 model-year run.

1960 Dodge D100

Note: The following story was excerpted from the October 2014 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

Chevrolet Bonanza

For as globalized as the auto business has become, you might think a brand as omnipresent as Chevrolet would sell pretty much the same lineup in every market it plays in. Turns out that’s not the case.

Silverado Hi-Rail by Harsco, How Hi-Rail Pickup Trucks Work

Chevrolet Silverado Hi-Rail conversion by Harsco. (Harsco Corporation photos.)

I have a number of automotive fantasies, many of which fall into the “never gonna happen” category. Among these daydreams are commuting to work in a Mercedes-Benz Unimog, and driving with Grace Kelly to get a malt at Chicago’s Superdawg Drive-In in a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing.

2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST

Consumer Guide Automotive

Chevrolet’s extra-large SUVs can get a bit more attitude for 2018 with the addition of the RST Edition package. Available on both Tahoes and Suburbans, the RST (for “Rally Sport Truck”) appearance package brings a body-color grille surround and door handles in place of chrome, as well as blacked-out mirror caps, grille, window-trim, badging, and roof rails. The finishing touch is a set of exclusive 22-inch wheels on Bridgestone tires.
