Stellantis, the North American parent company of Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, and Ram, is well known for taking names from its storied past and applying them to new vehicles. Its latest revival is the Fiat Topolino. Though the name dates to the Italian automaker’s original 1930s microcar, the modern iteration is a purpose-built electric vehicle designed for short trips, tight spaces, and low-cost operation.
What is the Fiat Topolino?

Europe classifies the Topolino as a “quadricycle,” a category of vehicles that allows for lighter construction; lower power and speeds; and without the need to comply with the strictest safety standards required of regular passenger cars. At a little more than 8 feet long, the Topolino is shorter than many golf carts. The cabin seats two with a simple, upright dashboard and few controls.
Power comes from a 4-kW (5.4-horsepower) electric motor, which limits the vehicle to a top speed of about 28 mph. It’s enough for dense urban cores and resort/retirement communities, but suburban commuters and long-distance travelers will want to steer clear. That’s doubly true for the projected driving range, which is just shy of 50 miles. Topolino will fall under the US’ “low-speed vehicle” (LSV) classification, which limits operation to roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less. On a practical note, charging is handled through a standard 110-volt household outlet, which means a zero to 100 percent refill should take about four hours.
Pricing and availability for US models has yet to be announced. In Europe, Topolino starts at about €10,500, or roughly $11,0000-$12,000 USD. Despite continued variability when it comes to tariffs on imports to the US, expect final pricing to stay in-line with its European counterpart.
CG Says
The Fiat Topolino is not meant to replace the family SUV. Think of it more as an alternative to an e-bike or scooter with the added assurances of a roof and a heater. We think it will be a hit with the Manhattan set as well as retirees living in places like Sun City, Arizona.
