Completely redesigned for 2022, the Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck now features the in-cabin-technology and drivetrain power and efficiency that had previously gone wanting. The new Tundra is offered in seven trim levels: entry SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, rugged TRD-Pro, and new high-end Capstone.
All but the SR and SR5 can be had with an all-new hybrid drivetrain which brings both more power and greater efficiency. Tundra prices start around $36,000 and climb to around $80,000 for a well-equipped Capstone.
Here are five cool things about the new Tundra:
5 Cool Things About the 2022 Toyota Tundra
Standard Power
Replacing the Tundra standard powerplant for 2022 is a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 dubbed i-Force. The new V6 cranks out 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. That’s 18 horsepower and 78 pounds of torque more than previous-generation Tundra’s 5.7-liter V8.

Hybrid Efficiency
Available only in the crew-cab short-bed body configuration, the i-Force Max powertrain delivers around 22 mpg, 2 mpg better than the standard i-Force-equipped Tundras.

Ride and Handling
The new Tundra rides and handles better than the previous-generation truck thanks to a new coil-spring rear suspension. Tundra joins the Ram 1500 in eschewing leaf springs, and delivers a sportier and more refined drive experience as a result. Note that the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, and Nissan Titan still make use of rear leaf springs.

Real Luxury
Replacing the 1794 Edition as the top Tundra trim level for 2022 is Capstone. Capstone comes standard with semi-aniline leather trim, real walnut cabin trim, 22-inch alloy wheels, and the i-Force Max engine. The Capstone comes only as a short-bed crew cab. With Capstone, Tundra now has a trim level for GMC Sierra Denali and Ram 1500 Limited shoppers to consider.
