Fast is a relative term. For 2017, there are a number of vehicles that will make the mad dash from a dead stop to 60 mph in three seconds or less. Count the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Ferrari 488 GTB, and Porsche 911 Turbo among them.
While the pace of life may have been no slower back in 1980, the vehicles certainly were. To demonstrate this fact, we have amassed the ten fastest-accelerating cars of that year, as tested by Consumer Guide®.
Note that this list contains only cars tested by Consumer Guide, thus no Porsche or Lamborghini products are represented. Perhaps as expected, Corvette tops the list, though the appearance of an imported Ford econobox may surprise some folks. Credit that car’s bantam-class curb weight and rather low axle ratio.
If you have had the pleasure of spending time with any of these vehicles, please tell us about it. We’d like to know more about what it was like to be fast—1980 style.
