In 1965, roughly six percent of all new cars sold were convertibles. By 1975, that number had shrunk to less than two percent. Sadly, for 2025, the number of convertibles sold in the U.S. has been reduced to a rounding error. Best estimates put the percent of drop-tops sold in the U.S. for ’25 at just .6 percent.
Best-Selling Convertibles of 2025
Unfortunately, safety and crash-standards adopted over the years have added to the cost of building convertibles, making them less appealing in the market place. Additionally, Americans no long buy cars, preferring crossovers, which are rarely offered with removable/retractable tops.
While the convertible hasn’t completely disappeared, it has become rather rare. There are only a handful of ragtop models offered in the States for 2026, fewof which will sell in anything approaching volume numbers.
Presented here are—by our estimates—the best-selling convertibles of 2025. Which would you like to see in your garage? Let us know by leaving a note below.
Jeep Wrangler
(removable top/convertible configurations)

2025 Sales: 42,000 (estimate)
The Wrangler’s removable hard/soft tops make it a de facto high-volume “convertible” in broader terms. Though Jeep does not breakout soft-top numbers when reporting Wrangler sales, it is generally understood that about a quarter of all Wranglers sold are of the “open-air” variety, making the popular off-roader the nation’s most popular convertible.
Ford Bronco
(removable top/convertible configurations)

2025 Sales: 37,000 (estimate)
Much like Jeep with the Wrangler, Ford only reports Bronco sales in aggregate. Perhaps not surprisingly, the removable-top take rate for Ford’s popular off-roader is about 25 percent, about the same as for the Wrangler. With 2025 sales coming in at 146,000 units, we estimate that just under 37,000 Bronco convertibles were sold in 2025.
Ford Mustang Convertible

2025 Sales: 10,000 (estimate)
While exact 2025 convertible-specific figures aren’t broken out separately (total Mustang sales include coupes), it ranks among the top volume sellers in the category due to its accessibility, power, and old-school performance status.
Mazda MX-5 Miata

2025 Sales: 8727
This lightweight Mazda roadster remains one of the strongest sales performers in the shrinking convertible segment. Sales rose 7.7 percent year-over-year to 8,727 units in 2025. The Miata consistently praised as the last true sports car.
Other Convertibles
Other 2025 notable convertible mentions include: Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, MINI Cooper Convertible, BMW Z4, and Porsche 718 Boxster. It is worth noting, however, that neither the Z4 nor the Boxster will be returning for 2026.
