Perhaps you remember the Mercury Villager Nautica (1994-1998), or the Subaru Outback L.L.Bean (2001-2008)? Or, closer to home, the Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer (1991-2010)? For a while, designer-branded crossovers and SUVs were a hot commodity, and a number of carmakers and clothing purveyors teamed up to ride the co-branding automotive special-edition wave. (You can read more about co-branded cars and trucks here.)

If you missed the first wave of vehicles named for beachwear and/or wooly socks, we have good news for you. Ford’s rugged Bronco has been hooked up with an apparel partner, and sales of the new trim level begins in 2027.

Meet Filson

Meet the 2027 Bronco Filson. Described as “limited edition” by Ford, the model represents a partnership between the Blue Oval folks and Seattle-based premium clothier Filson.

The Filson Bronco represents more than just unique trim and color elements, but also additional power, enhanced off-road prowess, and a quieter cabin. Ford is, per Ford, targeting buyers who might otherwise be temped by a Land Rover Defender, or Lexus GX. Foreshadow: The Bronco Filson won’t come cheap.

Let’s take a close look:

Power

While most Broncos are powered by either a turbocharged 275-horsepower 2.3-liter four or 315-horse 2.7-liter V6, the Filson will come equipped with the Bronco Raptor’s burly 418-horse turbocharged 3.0 V6. A 10-speed automatic will be the only transmission offered.

Off-Road Prowess

The Filson will come standard with the Bronco’s Sasquatch Package, which includes 35-inch all-terrain tires, front and rear locking differentials, Fox-brand shock absorbers, and off-road oriented drive modes. So equipped, the Filson boasts a level of off-road capability above that of conventional Broncos, but somewhat shy of the Raptor.

Quietness

As noted above, the Filson is intended to be cross-shopped with premium brand SUV offerings. To that end, Ford has taken steps to reduce cabin noise levels. Ford is calling the Filson’s interior the quietest Bronco cabin yet, which may be setting the sound-level bar a little low. That said, the carmaker promises a 20-percent reduction in measurable noise versus other Broncos. Upgrades include:

  • Acoustic glass (includes windshield and side glass)
  • Enhanced seals and gaskets (around doors and removable roof panels)
  • Tweaked aerodynamics (includes reshaped outside mirrors)
  • Additional sound-absorbing materials (in doors, floor panel, and the firewall)
  • Padded headliner and replacement of hard-plastic interior surfaces with padded material
  • Passive Exhaust (exhaust tuned for refinement rather than performance–results in small loss of power relative to Raptor)

Interior Trim

The Bronco Filson will incorporate design elements drawn from the retailer’s well-regarded jackets, luggage, and outdoor gear. For example:

  • Perforated quilted leather seats with woven fabric trim
  • Leather-wrapped instrument panel and steering wheel
  • Brass accents on the steering wheel bezel and drive-modes dial
  • Removable saddlebags integrated into the doors, plus optional cargo-area bags

Exterior Trim

  • Body-color wheel arches and fender flares
  • Painted mirror caps
  • Body-color roof panels
  • Trim-level specific wheels

Color choices include Field Green Metallic, Marsh Gray, Avalanche Gray, Desert Sand, Shadow Black, and Oxford White. A First Edition Filson variant can also be had in Iron Sands Copper Metallic.

Prices

Like the Raptor, the Filson trim level will be offered only as a 4-door. Ford will  begin taking orders for the Filson this Fall, with deliveries beginning in early 2027. Per Ford, the base price of the Filson should come in around $75,000, which does not include options and likely does not include the destination charge. That positions the Filson between the out-going Stroppe Edition Bronco ($71,995) and the line-capping Raptor ($81,990).

CG Says:

It’s interesting that we are just now getting word of a new Lincoln model based on the Bronco due in dealership prior to the 2030 model year. The Filson, with its premium cabin trim and quieter interior may serve as a peek at what that new rugged Lincoln will be like.
