2016 new York Auto ShowJeep introduced a new-for-2017 Trailhawk version of its Grand Cherokee midsize SUV at the 2016 New York Auto Show, along with an enhanced-for-2017 Grand Cherokee Summit model. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk brings a higher level of off-road prowess, and the updated Summit brings a more-luxurious interior and new features to the Grand Cherokee lineup’s top-end luxury model.

First Spin: 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk sports several off-road-oriented features, such as Jeep’s Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system, Selec-Speed with Hill Ascent Control, skid plates, and a unique version of the Grand Cherokee’s Quadra-Lift air suspension with improved articulation and suspension travel. The unique trim features are keeping in step with the look of the smaller-sibling Renegade and Cherokee Trailhawk models, and include an anti-glare hood decal, red tow hooks in the front and rear fascias, red accent stitching on the interior, and Trailhawk badging. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard, and 20-inch Goodyear Adventure off-road tires are optional.

A new Laguna leather interior features a standard suede headliner and Nappa leather on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Other standard features include premium Berber-brand carpet mats, a Harmon/Kardon sound system, and active noise cancellation. Lane departure warning and parallel- and perpendicular park assist join the list of standard tech features.

Both new Grand Cherokee models are set to go on sale this summer.

CG Says:

The addition of a Trailhawk model to the Grand Cherokee lineup is a no-brainer for Jeep. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk should attract its share of outdoorsy buyers… and also make for nice family-portrait pics with its smaller Renegade and Cherokee Trailhawk siblings. As for the tarted-up Summit model, there seems to be no limit to the high-end features and trimmings that buyers are willing to pay for in upscale SUVs, so Jeep is just responding to the market.
