What is EcoBoost?

The high-performance Taurus SHO was one of the first Ford vehicles to employ an EcoBoost engine.

There is a lot to be said for good automotive branding, especially good engine branding. One of the better recent efforts in this regard is Chrysler’s resurrection of the Hemi name, as applied to a new family of V8 engines that debuted for 2003.

2015 Ford F-150, F-150 With EcoBoost 2.7

Although it’s not the first vehicle to have an aluminum body (Audi, Jaguar, and Land Rover have been building them for years), the redesigned 2015 Ford F-150 is the first pickup to have one. Companies that use magnetic sheets to advertise their businesses on their trucks are going to have to find a different way to adhere them, as they won’t stick to aluminum.

Euro-spec Ford Focus, 3-Cylinder Focus

Don drove this Euro-spec Ford Focus with the 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine. “From a stop,” he writes, “it was quicker than I expected.”

I recently spent a beautiful summer day at Ford’s Dearborn Development Center at a media event. It’s a fairly surreal place since it is basically across the street from the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.
