Question: For the average pickup driver, what would constitute a dream truck? Would that vehicle be capable, fast, high-tech, luxurious, cool looking, and/or electric? And what would such a truck cost?
What if one truck was all of those things, and cost about $120,000?
For the record, the 2026 GMC Hummer 3X pickup costs about $120,000, and does things conventional picks simple weren’t made to do—like outrun a Corvette. Really. More on that in a moment…
Hummer History
A little background: General Motors dusted off the Hummer name for 2022, this time as a GMC electric-vehicle sub-brand. Once derided as a symbol of vehicular waste and excess, Hummer’s return as a clean, electric lineup of trucks was clearly meant to vindicate the marque, and to a lesser extent, GM as well.
Hummer Lineup
Hummer launched with a pickup truck and large SUV, both of which are built on GM’s “Ultium” architecture and assembled at the maker’s Factory Zero plant located in Detroit. The pickup and SUV are very similar in design and powertrain availability, though some power specs differ.
The Hummer pickup is best considered an extreme version of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra SUV, both of which are mechanically related to the Hummer, and roughly the same size.
That said, the Hummer pickup boasts considerably more power, more available off-road equipment, and more luxurious trappings. We’ll be focusing on the pickup today.
Prices and Trim Levels
For 2026, GMC offers the Hummer pickup in three trim levels:
- 2X ($99,895)
- 3X ($107,995)
- Graphite Edition (N/A)
The Graphite Edition, which features unique color and trim elements, is expected to arrive later in the model year and be priced above the 3X.
Drivetrain
Power for the Hummer pickup comes from either a dual-motor arrangement (2X) or three-motor setup (3X) and Graphite Edition. Dual-motor Hummer pickups are rated at 570 horsepower, while three-motor examples boast a prodigious 1000 horsepower, with even more optionally available.
Batteries
Battery options include a standard 180-kWh battery, which delivers between 312 and 318 miles of range, depending on how the truck is equipped. An optional 205-kWh battery extends range up 381 miles, again, depending on equipment. The optional battery also brings with it a power bump on three-motor models, raising the horsepower count to 1160.
Test Car
Consumer Guide recently spent a week behind the wheel of a 2026 Hummer 3X Pickup equipped with the optional battery, rolling bed cover, and NACS (Tesla) charge adaptor. All told, our Meteorite Metallic test car came to $118,935, including destination charge.
Before we jump into our general review, there are two things about the Hummer Pickup any shopper in this category ought to know up front: It’s odd to look out from, and it’s tough to jump into.
Looking Out
The original Hummer design—going way back—included a narrow glass area that hampered outward visibility. The new Hummer EV pays tribute to that look, though the total glass area is now more generous. The windshield of the new Hummer is fixed in a very upright position, compromising somewhat the view outward, but also placing the driver closer to the glass. This situation is briefly a little disorienting, though some drivers may find getting used to the setup takes a little time. That said, we acclimated easily to this arrangement during our test week.
Jumping In
Thanks to its large wheels and tires, and generous off-road accommodating ground clearance, the Hummer Pickup is a chore to enter and exit. Younger and more nimble drivers and passengers may not mind, but some of our testers found the daily climb into the Hummer tiresome. While this will be an issue for older passengers, we suspect most Hummer owners will find the climb part of this vehicle’s charm.
Cabin
Having climbed into the cabin, drivers and guests will find a surplus of passenger space and very comfortable seating accommodations. The cabin appears fresh and modern, and is finished in attractive, high-end materials, though perhaps not quite $120,000 high end. That said, the Hummer Pickup interior is warm and welcoming.
Infotainment
Interestingly, the Hummer does not employ a single screen which includes both the instrument panel and center-console touchscreen—a thing which has become very popular, especially in electric vehicles—and instead employs two screens, both of which are easy to read.
Most functions are accessed via the touchscreen, with the primary climate controls located in a band below the screen. We found access to the most-used operations generally easy and uncomplicated.
Power and Performance
Underway, the Hummer impresses. With more than 1000 horsepower on tap, the big electric pickup launches—smoothly—from a stop, and when pressed, will reach 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, according to GMC. For comparison, a brand-new base Corvette will reach 60 mph in 3.0-3.3 seconds. What impresses most about the available power is how smoothly the Hummer goes about its business in routine driving. It’s the very definition of a “sleeper.”
Ride and Handling
On the road the Hummer feels solid, with luxury-sedan ride quality and impressive quietness. Handling is also impressive. Despite the Hummer’s substantial mass, it takes corners with confidence, and feels sporty in the process. Also, thanks to the truck’s Electronic 4-Wheel Steer system, it maneuvers through tight spaces and parking garages with almost ridiculous ease.
Snow Performance
As luck would have it, the Hummer’s time with Consumer Guide coincided with a significant snow event. We’re happy to report that this big EV is not troubled by deep snow or significant drifts. Snowbelters, take note.
4-Wheel Steering
An interesting note about the Hummer’s 4-wheel steering system: Software updates to the system were implemented for 2026, enhancing the big trucks ability to execute tight turns. Because the updates do not include hardware, GMC is able to upgrade 2022-2025 Hummer models with the same updates, via an over-the-air (OTA) download. There is no charge for the upgrade.
Value
Cadillac once built a pickup truck. It was a variant of its big SUV dubbed Escalade EXT. The plush pickup was offered between 2002 and 2013, and was arguably pickup-truck capable while also being over-the-top luxurious.
The Hummer Pickup picks up the EXT mantle, and expands it with greater power, better handling, and much improved energy efficiency. At $120,000 well equipped, the Hummer is a big commitment, but there’s big payoff if you enjoy the what this crazy truck brings to the table. For us, we’re glad that GMC chose to shed the Hummer’s paramilitary design for something cleaner and more modern.
And as for memories of the militaristic, gas-sucking Hummers of days gone by—let those memories fade away. Hummer has redeemed itself.
