Nissan’s 370Z traces its heritage back to the Fairlady Z, the car that made its American debut as the 1970 Datsun 240Z at the 1969 New York Auto Show. To celebrate a half century of the Z-car, Nissan prepared a 50th-anniversary package for the 2020 370Z Sport hatchback coupe and introduced it at the 2019 New York International Auto Show.

2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt, 2019 Mustang Bullitt

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of iconic movie “Bullitt” and its fan-favorite San Francisco car chase, Ford introduced the cool and powerful 2019 Mustang Bullitt.

Arguably the most famous Mustang of all is the dark-green 1968 Mustang GT fastback that Steve McQueen’s character Lieutenant Frank Bullitt drove in the 1968 motion picture Bullitt. Ford celebrated that iconic car with special-edition Bullitt Mustangs in 2001 and again in 2008-09. For 2019, Ford has released a third Bullitt Mustang, and like the others, it’s our choice for a future collectible.

2019 Cadillac CT6-V

Note: The following story was excerpted from the June 2019 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

Cadillac’s first high-performance “V” series offering was the 2004 CTS-V. The latest member of this tasty lineup of future collectibles is the full-size CT6-V sedan. It was announced in March 2018 at the New York Auto Show as the CT6 V-Sport, and the “Sport” suffix indicated it wasn’t considered a full-fledged V-series model. By September 2018, the company reconsidered and said the production car would be the 2019 CT6-V.

When a limited-production variant of a performance car that’s been around a few years is announced, it’s easy to assume there’s little new beyond special graphics or maybe a fresh exterior color. Our latest Future Collectibles subject, the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA, is one of the exceptions that have been reworked sufficiently to pique enthusiast interest.

2018 Lincoln Continental

Note: The following story was excerpted from the February 2019 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

The Lincoln Continental seemingly faded away after 2002, but the storied nameplate—so integral to the marque—apparently was too important to lose. It came back in 2017, applied to Lincoln’s largest sedan on a stretched version of the Ford Fusion chassis. It’s fair to say the car’s styling elicited mixed reactions, a pity for a nameplate first used by Lincoln on a car that oozed style. That said, this installment of Future Collectibles focuses on the latest Continentals in Lincoln’s Black Label Program.

Hummer H3T Alpha

Hummer H3T Alpha

Note: The following story was excerpted from the December 2018 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

Hummer was badly wounded in 2008, first by the rapid rise in gasoline prices and then by the increasingly shaky economy. Ultimately, though, the brand was a casualty of General Motors’s June 1, 2009, bankruptcy filing, and with it went an intriguing vehicle that was snuffed out soon after its arrival.

Now that’s yesterday’s news, and the story Dodge is selling for 2018 stars an 840-horsepower Challenger. Let that 840 number soak in as we consider the latest Future Collectibles pick, the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon.

Note: The following story was excerpted from the August 2018 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

If you’re a “hot-hatch” fan in America, these days your choices have largely been limited to the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R, along with the Ford Focus ST and Focus RS. Of course, there are also various speedy Subarus, along with the Honda Civic Si coupe and sedan. Not that there’s anything wrong with any of those, but if you’re the type of enthusiast who can’t wait to pick up the next issue of EVO magazine, you’re certainly aware of all the fantastic over-the-top hot hatches the Brits get to drive but you can’t buy. Why is it we always want what we cannot have?

Note: The following story was excerpted from the June 2018 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

Lexus calls its brand-new LC 500 coupe the luxury brand’s flagship. It also says it’s a concept car come to life, in this case the LF-LC concept first shown at Detroit’s North American International Auto Show in early 2012.
