Camaro ZL1In a market that’s more and more dominated by small sport utilities, enthusiasts can still find some reasonably practical hot hatchbacks. One of the raciest of the latest crop is the Hyundai Veloster N. It’s the first American-market model from Hyundai’s new high-performance N brand, which sounds like fertile ground for future collectibility.

Camaro ZL1Legendary Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov was working on the idea of a midengine car by 1960. Now his fervent dream is finally reality with the introduction of the eighth-generation “C8” Corvette, the 2020 Stingray.

Jeep began building pickups in 1947, but the streak ended when the Cherokee-based Comanche ceased production in 1992. For 2020, Jeep jumps back into this important market with the Gladiator. Though its name comes from the Wagoneer-derived Gladiator (later J-Series) pickups the brand sold between 1963 and 1987, it was arguably inspired more by the CJ-7-like 1981-85 Scrambler.

Arguably the most famous Mustang of all is the dark-green 1968 Mustang GT fastback that Steve McQueen’s character Lieutenant Frank Bullitt drove in the 1968 motion picture Bullitt. Ford celebrated that iconic car with special-edition Bullitt Mustangs in 2001 and again in 2008-09. For 2019, Ford has released a third Bullitt Mustang, and like the others, it’s our choice for a future collectible.

by Don Sikora

Note: The following story was excerpted from the June 2019 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

Cadillac’s first high-performance “V” series offering was the 2004 CTS-V. The latest member of this tasty lineup of future collectibles is the full-size CT6-V sedan. Note: The following story was excerpted from the April 2019 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine.

When a limited-production variant of a performance car that’s been around a few years is announced, it’s easy to assume there’s little new beyond special graphics or maybe a fresh exterior color. Our latest Future Collectibles subject, the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA, is one of the exceptions that have been reworked sufficiently to pique enthusiast interest.
