Volkswagen announced today that most of its U.S.-market products will be covered by a standard 6-year/72,000-mile limited “bumper-to-bumper” warranty beginning with the 2018 model year. New Volkswagen Warranty.
The new warranty replaces a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty standard on 2017 and earlier VW models.

Per Volkswagen, “The six-year/72,000-mile People First Warranty includes powertrain coverage for engines, transmissions and optional 4Motion® all-wheel-drive systems. Additionally, all the elements of the People First Warranty can be transferred to subsequent owners for up to six years or 72,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date it was first sold new.”
The typical bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage for a non-luxury automotive brand is 3-year/36,000 mile, though Hyundai, Kia, and Mitsubishi also offer standard bumper-to-bumper coverage beyond that norm.
