At the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota’s Scion division unveiled a slicked-up concept version of a 4-door hatchback that it plans to release as a production vehicle in the near future. In overall size and shape, the Scion iM Concept recalls the recently departed Toyota Matrix, but with a more-aggressive look.
It had to happen … and today it did.
Lexus released the potent RC coupe earlier this year, and it surprised virtually no one that a convertible version was displayed as a concept at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Volkswagen unleashed a volley of Golf news at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, with the world debut of the Golf Sportwagen Hymotion and Golf R Variant and the announcement of pricing for the 2015 Golf R.
It was tried before … with less-than-stellar results. But apparently Mercedes still sees a market for an über Benz, and still feels its prewar Maybach moniker carries substantial luxury weight.
After revealing photographs of a production version back in April at the 2014 New York Auto Show, Honda debuted its HR-V subcompact crossover at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The HR-V is based on the platform of the Honda Fit hatchback, which was redesigned for 2015. A 138-horsepower, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder is the HR-V’s lone powertrain; front-wheel drive models offer the choice of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed manual transmission, while all-wheel drive versions come exclusively with the CVT.
Chrysler unveiled a freshened 2015 version of its 300 large sedan at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Exterior styling gets a mild facelift, with a look that Chrysler calls “more sculptural and expressive.” Highlights of the updated design are a more prominent grille with a “floating” Chrysler wing badge, LED fog lamps and daytime running lamps, and LED taillights.
Kia unveiled a redesigned 2016 Sorento at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The all-new version of Kia’s popular midsize, 3-row SUV wears some styling cues first seen on the company’s Cross GT concept that debuted at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. Most notable are narrower headlights that flank a taller, bolder grille, though the rest of the body looks familiar.
Mazda pulled the wraps off a new compact crossover at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The CX-3 slots in below the compact CX-5 in Mazda’s SUV lineup—its trim dimensions measure 168.3 inches in overall length, 101.2 in wheelbase, 69.5 in width, and 61 in height—all very close in size to a Buick Encore.
Cadillac introduced the anticipated V-Series performance version of its ATS model at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2016 Cadillac ATS-V will be offered in both coupe and sedan form, packing a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 that Cadillac rates at an estimated 455 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Two transmissions will be available: a 6-speed manual with Active Rev Match, no-lift shifting, and launch control, or a paddle-shift 8-speed automatic with launch control and Performance Algorithm Shift.
