When I think Cutlass, I think of the 1984 Cutlass Supreme seen below. The near-premium personal-luxury coupe was almost absurdly popular in its day, and was usually the best-selling car in the Chicago area every year.
I imagine anyone of a certain age sees a different car when they hear the model name Cutlass. First used by Olds back in 1961 as the top trim level on the compact F-85, the Cutlass badge has adorned almost countless body styles and price points in the maker’s lineup.
Indeed, the Cutlass has been a coupe, sedan, convertible, station wagon, and has seen service as a compact and midsize car. The following are just a few of the specific models to which the Cutlass moniker has been attached:
- F-85
- Hurst
- 4-4-2
- Supreme
- Salon
- Calais
- Ciera
- Cruiser/Vista Cruiser
The Cutlass name was last used by Oldsmobile in 1999, applied to small sedan which was pretty much a clone of the contemporary Chevrolet Malibu.
