After Dark: Classic Car Ads Set at Night

The song “Driver’s Seat” would be British pop band Sniff ‘n’ the Tears biggest hit. Released in 1978, the tune would chart in several countries, and would provide period top-40-radio listeners with a needed reprieve from the disco music which then dominated the airwaves.

I don’t remember Sniff ‘n’ the Tears, but I sort of remember “Driver’s Seat.” Great tune. Because of its placement in a ad campaign, I was reminded of the song recently, though the only lyric I could make out was, “A little driving on a Saturday night.”

Hearing the song again, I was given to a bout of nostalgia, and longed to be back in high school driving around my home town of Palatine, Illinois, sometime after midnight. Maybe I heard “Driver’s Seat” come over the Delco radio in my Pontiac Ventura at some point back then, who’s to say?
