Buick is one of the oldest automotive brands still in existence, and it has a number of cool feathers in its cap. The upscale automaker is credited with selling the first car powered by an overhead-valve engine (1904), and becoming the first division of General Motors (1908).
If you’re roughly my age (I’m in my early fifties), Buick is likely best known to you as the builder of Eighties cushmobiles, the venerable 3800 V6, and the powerhouse Regal Grand National and GNX.
Yet, as much a part of the American automotive landscape as Buick is, its primary market is no longer the United States. Buicks enjoy an almost cult-like following in China, and the Asian nation accounted for fully 80 percent of the brand’s 2018 sales.
Still, no level of global sales success can take Buick, or its rich heritage, away from the us. To celebrate the brand that brought us the Dynaflow transmission and front-fender Ventiports, we share here 21 classic Buick ads and one TV commercial.
